Los Locos is not just any beach: it is a European Surf Reserve, a distinction shared by only a handful of spots across the continent. This recognition protects its waves and natural environment, ensuring that the conditions that make Los Locos a legendary spot are preserved for future generations.
What sets Los Locos apart from other beaches is the quality and power of its waves. Nestled between cliffs, the beach concentrates swell energy and produces consistent waves with exceptional force and shape. Its three peaks —El Huerto, La Playa, and Sopico— offer very different experiences within just 500 meters of coastline.
For intermediate and advanced surfers, Los Locos is a must-visit in Cantabria. El Huerto's rights are long and allow for maneuvers, while Sopico's lefts offer barrels on bigger swell days. But there's also room for beginners: the central area of La Playa has softer waves where schools teach classes in complete safety.
